MATRADE was established since March 1, 1993 as the external trade promotion arm of Malaysia’s Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI). MATRADE functions as a focal point for Malaysian exporters and foreign importers to source for trade related information. By providing market research information and relevant advice, MATRADE assists Malaysian exporters to better position their products and services in the highly competitive global markets.
Their mission is to develop and promote Malaysia’s export to the world. MATRADE’s function is to promote, assist and develop Malaysia’s external trade with particular emphasis on the export of manufactured and semi-manufactured products and services. Other than that, they formulate and implement export marketing strategies and trade promotion activities to promote Malaysia’s export. They also undertake commercial intelligence and market research and create a comprehensive database of information for the improvement and development of Malaysia’s trade.
Apart from that, they also organise training programmes to improve the international marketing skills of Malaysian exporters. They also play the role to enchance and protect Malaysia’s international trade investment abroad. They promote, facilitate and assist in the services areas related to trade.
In order to fulfill this functions, they organised trade mission to China with the Malaysian Industrial Development Authority (MIDA). This mission is targeting both existing and new markets. The leadership of the Minister and Deputy Minister facilitates access to high-level officials and businessmen of China. It also raises the profile of the missions and the participants.
The major agenda during of the trade and investment missions are:
- Seminars where foreign participants are briefed on business opportunities available in Malaysia and are given updates on the Malaysian business environment.
- One-to-one business meetings between the members of the mission and companies of the country visited.
Wavelet was one of the participant to represent Malaysia and explore market in China.
